Having heard that
Clear Creek was finally, ligitimately open again, we figured it was
time to go check her out! Most of the PORC club members had decided
to get in a last shot at fishing up at Roche Lake, and some others
took their fun to the skies (went sky diving)...I guess they were
looking for new trails from up there! So luckily we were joined by
some of the four wheelers who we have met through this
site.
We headed out Saturday afternoon to camp
for the night at Cascade Peninsula on the East side of Harrison Lake,
to be joined Sunday morning by the rest of the crowd. Unfortunately,
some rock stackers have found their way to Cascade and decided to
start messing with the only obstacles on the way to the beach. The
last ditch that you have to climb out of has had its bottom 2-3'
filled in and that has pretty much taken any decent angle out of the
obstacle. Can appreciate people wanting to get there 'cause it's a
great spot, but they've just messed up the fun and challenge for
others. If you have to stack'em (we all do sooner or later) please
remove them. We ended up having a nice, quiet Saturday night, having
the whole area and beach to ourselves.

The Sunday crowd met early in the morning
and had joined us by about 10:30. After the usual tire kicking,
under-vehicle conversations and final packing, we were on the roll.
Having heard some rumors that Clear Creek was now basically an
unchallenging 'paved' run, we were anxious to see for ourselves what
had changed. I've never thought of CC as a super challenging run in
the first place but more as a decent "learning" trail for a freshly
bought or modified rig. In the past years, we have gotten completely
stock vehicles up there with mild tugging and I think that most stock
first timers would still need help in a few places. But, the trail
has definetly been spruced up, which is no surprise considering the
CFS was just there about three or four ?? weeks prior to us running
her. The creek has been pretty much rerouted off the run for now and
the washout near the spring as been fixed up. With a couple of good
run-off seasons it should be back to what it has shown us in the
past. In the time that I've been running it, pretty much every season
has offered changes to it's varied obstacles and I don't see why it
would be any different this time around. I saw no major culverting
anywhere and considering the "dry" summer we've had it's probably the
best year that they could have picked to try and "dry up" this
trail.

Our group pretty much made a cruise
of it, having to pull out the strap once to help Ian in his Toy off
of a mossy log which he was trying to ride....... He may have fallen
asleep at that point.... ;) We were at the springs and cabin by about
1:00, where we ran into some of the Coastal Cruisers. They had just
replaced the cabin's stove with a new one--nice to see they haven't
given up on it. We lit off a fire, had lunch, pounded back a whole
shitload of beer and got absolutely pie eyed in order to make the
trail "more challenging"
on the way out.
........<G>.......Just kidding. On the way down the forest road
we played on the sand piles for awhile and then we all headed out for
a bite to eat.
The trail may be easier than it was
previously, but at least it's back in our hands and available to us.
The purpose of this run for us was to get out, meet some new people,
and just have a good time doing what we enjoy. If the trails a
challenge so be it, if not, rate it for what it is and let others
enjoy it at that level.
Thanks again to the 4WDABC and to the
Chilliwack Forest District for working together to keep this one
around.
