Well with a lot of on and off determination, we were finally on our way for a one-nighter at Hut Lake. We met up with Trent out in Richmond and would then meet up with Raf and some of his buddies along the Sea to Sky highway. (just a note,, most of these pics were taken on the way back down the trail,, she was getting a little dark on us for any good shots) This would be our first try at Hut and Upper Hut Lakes in a year (never did make it last year due to snow fall)... It would also be the first try at this trail in our solid axle swap Trooper and Trent K's first real run with his freshly lifted '99 TJ... I've got to say right off the bat, that for a rig with 3" of lift and only 32" tires (no locker, just a rear l/s) it was amazing to watch it flex and literally make easy work of this trail. Trent later found out that he ramps around 1050, that's pretty damn good!
Slippin' and sliddin' <g>

Raf finds the right line
We fueled-up in Squamish and proceeded to air down at the trail head. The run to Hut Lake was straight forward and being that we're in daylight savings time, we figured we might as well continue up to Upper Hut Lake and camp there, it's a nicer site anyways (and hey!! maybe the rain would finally die down). Just to throw in here, it was nice to see that those that could no longer climb the 'rock' at Hut Lake decided to cut a few trees out of the way. Wasn't necessary guys and I'm sure the odd enviro-nut that does find their way up there will appreciate the help in justifying us not being there. If you can't do it, leave it alone!!! (ok, ok, no more rant <g>,,,, DINKS!!!! ) I was surprised to see how much the 'Trench" had changed since a couple of years.. it looks like it's on it's way to being carved out of the dirt into one big piece of rock, with of course, a ridge down the middle of it.

Trent on the way down Raf being the only one locked up (front and rear), was first up... He got up the first section ('V'rock) without any trouble but seemed to slip and spin a bit on the climb out of the 'Trench'. I guess he could have aired down a bit more considering the running water, but a couple of re-alignments and he was up.. The Trooper was next and I got kicked out of the driver's seat... Yup that's right guys. they're taking over,,, the WIFE decided she wanted to take the wheel.. Shit!! I let her drive once on the Rubi.,, then she decides she's going to boot me out on the Alexander Mac. trail last year AND now this!!! SHE wants to drive our newly ''adjusted'' Trooper up and out of the 'Trench'..... OK fine I say (thinking why the *@#* we ever let them vote!! ,,,never mind that's probably for a different type of site..... By the way I'm just kidding,,, of course!!! <g>)..... Anyways, she drove up without a hitch, pulling the trailer and all ... The 'V' rock was a nice slow crawl up with no slippage (must be the automatic <g>)..... Our first problem happened at the climb out of the Trench,, I spotted Rox onto a harder line and the Trooper's front end jumped a couple of times.. Apparently, the front driveshaft is a little bit too short when flexed at max. I never had it lengthed 'cause I'm planning some other drivetrain changes in the near future.. Anyways, 20 minutes or so later we had the slip joint back together (no she didn't put it back together,, I DID!!,,, she held the nuts though,, ah yes back into the kitchen you go!! ;) Didn't want to have it come apart again and hold everyone up again,,, so opted for the quick tug from Raf... Up we go and it's Trent's turn. Before I could clear his way and get back down to watch Trent make his attempt,,, he had tried once, re-adjusted and made it up the second time... Think he impressed himself and the rest of us. Raf was real happy being locked up front and rear and all. We made it to camp without any other troubles, rain stopped, kicked back and had a few.. We left the next day, late afternoon. We had to wait for a couple of trucks that were on the way up, she's a very tight trail and there's no way to pass each other. We wound up meeting up with Dave P. and his friends Kevin and Mike. Mike was in his new '85 Toy and Dave in his Cherokee. Mike took a shot at the climb out of the Trench, with not much luck, think if we had stacked a few rocks at the base he would have been ok..Dave had a few tries at the 'V' rock, slipped into it and decided it could wait for another day.
